		Coup d'etat Cardigan
		Improved!   This sweater looks complicated but is do-able even for knitters who are not advanced. The Coup d'etat will take time but the pattern makers , Cheryl and Bonnie, have spent months revising this pattern so it will be clear to all skill levels. Less experienced knitters should make the Coup d'etat with oversight from a confident knitter. Expanded!   Now there are two patterns in one. Worsted weight AND sport weight. This handsome cardigan is made using seed stitch, cables and reverse stockinette stitch. In worsted weight, the sweater is heavy enough to be a winter jacket. The DK sport makes a more flowing garment for indoor or outdoor use. Largest size is 52", which uses 8 skeins. Largest size for DK sport is 52.5", and uses 6 skeins of yarn. All patterns include sizes 36"-52". The lengths of the sweaters are, 21 1/4" to 27 1/4 ". Gauge for ww is 4 stitches per inch, and 4.5 stitches per inch for DK sport, on a size #7 needle. Seven buttons are needed. All kits include, yarn, pattern,story,buttons and sew-in label. History    In 1990 Marty and our son Silas (8 years) and daughter Cora Josephine (13) joined me for a several week stay in Moscow. There we met with artisans, one of whom was Irena Chournaya, a knitter and designer. She invited Marty to paw through her sweaters in her bureau until we came upon what we named the Coup d'etat (French for 'blow to the state') to commemorate the collapse of the Soviet state which began a few months after our return home.

Sweetheart Cardigan

Marty completes her second Sweetheart Cardigan!

She used Peace Fleece worsted weight "Brenda's Purple" for the main color and her own handspun yarn for the trim made from a blend of hand dyed wool from her sheep, dyed with roadside Rabbit's Clover and multicolored Peace Fleece batting. She added vintage bakelite buttons found at yard sales and followed the directions for size small. Marty is modeling her cardigan at right with her husband Peter.

How did the sassy become a sweetheart? We tamed it, that's how! We've made the sweater longer, with the same fitted shoulders and a darling V-neck that leaves you room to breathe. Try a solid knit, or a two-tone option for a truly unique look. This pattern is a gem. Meticulously written to give you a sweater that not only looks great, but feels great on you. Knit in a clean stockinette stitch with tidy ribbing around the edge and cuffs for comfort. Buttonband is done with a double rib stitch to add to the overall look. Nothing "frumpy" about this cardigan. Here seen in Dolly's Choice knit with Lauren's Coral and Anna's Grasshopper. This kit now comes with Green Daisy buttons because we are currently out of the buttons that are shown on the sweater modeled by Dolly to the right. Sizes 36-48". Siberian Woodsman's Sweater

A well, worn, faded "Pete's Choice" on Pete.

This is a fitted yet roomy style sweater. The Adult Unisex sizes may be knit in a 3-color combination or in a solid color. We designed this sweater years ago during the Cold War with the Soviet Union. The kit comes with the very beautiful and powerful poem "Ode to a Siberian Woodsman" by Wendell Berry.      Mr. Berry writes in 1985 of his mental image of a Russian woodcutter living in the Siberian forest and asks silently of this woodsman far away "Who has appointed me such anger that I should desire the burning of your house or the destruction of your children?"      After 20 years of living here on our farm and running Peace Fleece we are happy to say that Russia and the United States have not destroyed each other and that our family has been blessed by knowing and caring for so many new friends that were strangers in 1985.      Each kit includes a pattern, yarn, the Wendell Berry's poem, a story by Pete and a sew on label.Finished chest Sizes 38-50.Lengths, 25-29".Recommnded needle sizes, #5 and #7.
