		Coup d'etat Cardigan
		Improved! This sweater looks complicated but is do-able even for knitters who are not advanced. The Coup d'etat will take time but the pattern makers , Cheryl and Bonnie, have spent months revising this pattern so it will be clear to all skill levels. Less experienced knitters should make the Coup d'etat with oversight from a confident knitter. Expanded! Now there are two patterns in one. Worsted weight AND sport weight. This handsome cardigan is made using seed stitch, cables and reverse stockinette stitch. In worsted weight, the sweater is heavy enough to be a winter jacket. The DK sport makes a more flowing garment for indoor or outdoor use. Largest size is 52", which uses 8 skeins. Largest size for DK sport is 52.5", and uses 6 skeins of yarn. All patterns include sizes 36"-52". The lengths of the sweaters are, 21 1/4" to 27 1/4 ". Gauge for ww is 4 stitches per inch, and 7.25 stitches per inch for DK sport. Seven buttons are needed. History In 1990 Marty and our son Silas (8 years) and daughter Cora Josephine (13) joined me for a several week stay in Moscow. There we met with artisans, one of whom was Irena Chournaya, a knitter and designer. She invited Marty to paw through her sweaters in her bureau until we came upon what we named the Coup d'etat (French for 'blow to the state') to commemorate the collapse of the Soviet state which began a few months after our return home.
