Knitting at the Airport

edited by Peter Hagerty, co-founder of Peace Fleece

Dear Peace Fleece,
I’m writing you to tell you how Peace Fleece united some people recently who may never have spoken to each other. My daughter Heather moved from Damariscotta Me. to Sante Fe NM. I wanted to visit her but dreaded the long trip to NM with a four hour layover in Philadelphia. Heather suggested that I take my knitting with me to make the time pass. I was sitting in the airport knitting on your Shepherd’s Jacket pattern with your hand painted needles and I could see a woman watching me. I took out the hand painted buttons that I ordered from you and she couldn’t take it any longer, she came over and said she was dying to ask me where I got the yarn and needles from and now she had to have the buttons too. As I was giving her the address, two other women joined us and soon we were all laughing and talking about yarn. I made three new friends and the four hours passed very quickly. I then boarded the plane for the long flight to NM. As I was sitting there knitting, I noticed the woman next to me trying to read my pattern so I spoke to her and she said that she had wanted to ask me where she could buy the needles I was knitting with. As I was writing your address down for her, the stewardess came by and asked if she could have the address also. We spent a long time talking about all the knitting we all did. At the end of the flight, I said good by to two more new friends. Thank you for making my trip so much fun and for my new friends.
Sincerely, Jodi
